Following the UK Government's publication of New Industry New Jobs (NINJ) and its associated industrial activism agenda, the RDA Network commissioned ICF GHK (with Technopolis and CURDS) to identify centres and/or clusters of expertise and excellence in each of the six NINJ industrial technologies (including advanced manufacturing, digital, low carbon, composites, life sciences and plastic electronics). Document review, substantial stakeholder engagement - at national and regional level and across the public and private sector - and database interrogation formed the basis of a national report and regional annexes outlining the extent and nature of comparative advantage across regions and technologies. In turn, the mapping informed national, pan-regional and regional investments to support the development of national and regional industrial competitiveness.
